Printmaking Mondays

This class will cover a variety of printmaking techniques with demonstrations and instruction given at the start of each new medium. We will cover collagraph printing, in which textures are built up on a plate which is then inked and printed. We will print directly from found objects as well, including old metal, wood, fabric or ephemera. We will also explore monotype printing, a more painterly approach in which imagery is applied to a plate with inks, brayers brushes, stencils, etc.

Other techniques which will be made available to students include drypoint etching, a process where imagery is scratched into a plexiglass plate; and relief printing, where an image is carved out of a soft material before being printed.

Toward the end of the class students can layer techniques to create richly textured, unique prints. Students who wish to follow individual printing interests with input and instruction as needed are also welcome to join the class. No prior printmaking experience necessary.
