The Great Falls Regional Chamber of Commerce in Bellows Falls is exploring a merger with the Brattleboro Area Chamber of Commerce after years of financial strain and staffing challenges. Supporters of the idea say the two communities already operate in overlapping commercial circles, with customers and services flowing between Bellows Falls, Rockingham, Brattleboro, and northern Windham County. They say a combined chamber could make it easier for businesses to build partnerships across town lines.
Gary Fox of the Great Falls Regional Chamber of Commerce said a regional model would make the organization stronger and would allow it to have a full-time executive director.
Rachel Shields Ebersole of the Brattleboro Area Chamber of Commerce said the arrangement could create more opportunities for connections and collaboration among local businesses.
To discuss the possible merger, the Bellows Falls chamber is holding a meet-and-greet breakfast Friday morning at the Welcome Center for its members. If the plan moves ahead, it is expected to take several weeks before it is finalized.
